The song Kanmani is a duet. I had quickly sung the tracks for the male part. I was sure that with a few hundred attempts, I should be able to pull it together myself later. On the day I started my recording trip to Kochi, I met Ashi who was friend of Roopesh whose dad was a friend of my father in law. Who's Ashi? Ashi was Franco's good friend.Franco was a young singer who was hitting the top charts with a new album called "Chempakame". People went crazy for his songs. I had heard them and thought they were excellent. I told Ashi that I had no more full songs but I do have this catchy duet song and I am not sure if it would be worth Franco's time. Because the tune is quite simple. I played the song to Ashi. He loved it and insisted that Franco should sing it. And 4 days later there I was. In Pooja studios. Recording with Franco.
The first thing I can remember about Franco is his jovial attitude. Meaning he was COOL. Very very easy going.
The lines were simple. I couldn't stop smiling when Franco was singing because he was enjoying it. He was dancing. His whole body moved to the tune. I had no idea about his range and styles so he wasn't in the picture when I was trying to allocate the songs. While recording, I realized that Franco had good range. His styles were mostly western and pop but I could see that he was very gifted and could accommodate any style. I really look forward to working with him more.
I met Franco again in the Lake Tahoe, USA while he was visiting his family. I managed to record some video for this song. We had a great time in Lake Tahoe. How that footage will be used is a big question mark.
